If you've ever desired a luxury vehicle, but were limited by your budget, the Kia Amanti is a remarkably well-dressed sedan with a scant $26,000 sticker price.
The Amanti has impressed many since its introduction and Kia continues to enhance its flagship sedan, most notably with a new, 3.8-liter V6 engine providing 264 horsepower, a lighter platform with modified suspension and significant exterior and interior styling upgrades.
The larger V6 is a welcome addition for 2007. The 2006 Amanti featured a 200-horsepower V6 and it was underpowered. The 264-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 provides the '07 Kia Amanti with very satisfying acceleration, both from a stop and for passing.
Mated to the likable V6 is a smooth-shifting 5-speed automatic. The combination provides quiet operation and feels quite refined.
For 2007, Amanti's exterior sheet metal was tweaked to give it a sportier and more upscale look. While Amanti's overall shape still reminds us of the Lincoln Town Car and the front lighting hints at Mercedes' E-Class, the 2007 Kia Amanti is noticeably more attractive than its predecessor.
Various all-new features also were added to the 2007 Amanti. Among them are 17-inch wheels available in chrome finish and optional power adjustable pedals for increased comfort while driving.
In addition to the larger 3.8-liter engine and upgraded suspension and styling, a host of amenities have been packaged into the vehicle, increasing Amanti's value even more. Standard features include eight airbags, dual zone automatic temperature control, power front seats with power four-way lumbar setting for driver's seat and front active headrests.
Inside, Amanti offers a cabin that's roomy and comfortable. A family of five or four large adults will find plenty of head and legroom inside Amanti.
My 2007 Kia Amanti tester came equipped with the Leather Package ($2,500), which included very nice perforated leather seats, heated seats, memory for the driver's seat and outside mirrors, upgraded Infinity sound system, 4-inch monitor with trip computer, and power adjustable pedals.
Unfortunately, Kia does not offer a navigation system in Amanti. Buyers wanting that option can solve that woe by having an aftermarket unit installed.
When the Kia Amanti isn't busy taking you back-and-forth to work, it's excellent for those shopping trips to the mall, or for taking a four-some to the country club. Its spacious 15.9-cu. ft. trunk will easily gobble up loads of packages or four sets of golf clubs.
The Kia Amanti delivers a very pleasing ride. The suspension is tuned with an emphasis on comfort. The cabin is well insulated to keep out road and wind noise. Passengers will also be quite comfortable for long trips in the Amanti.
Handling and braking are quite impressive, too. Anti-lock brakes are standard on Amanti, but stability control and traction control are optional. They are included, however, in the Electronic Stability Package, which also includes brake assist. I'd recommend that package as it only adds $500 to the price.
Like all Kia models, the Amanti is covered by a comprehensive warranty that includes a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty; a five-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty; and a five-year or 100,000-mile anti-perforation warranty. A five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan is also part of the coverage program.
With all that Amanti has to offer, it provides an amazing value to customers in the mid to large sedan segment. The Kia Amanti is a great bargain, it looks and feels like it should cost thousands more. |
