Jaguar’s X-Type Sportwagon was designed for people with active, demanding lifestyles. And while the X-Type Sportwagon is obviously a versatile vehicle, it’s also a stunningly beautiful car.
Jaguar wanted its X-Type Sportwagon to stand out, apart from the competition. I believe they’ve succeeded. With its leaping cat hood ornament and seductive Jaguar-esque curves, the X-Type Sportwagon is a wagon anyone would love to be seen in.
Looking sporty and athletic, the X-Type Sportwagon truly puts the word “sport” into the equation. As Jaguar’s first production wagon, the X-Type Sportwagon comes well-equipped.
Under the bonnet, er hood, sits a 227-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Of course once you slip inside the car you’ll find the traditional J-gate shifter.
Power is sent to all four wheels through Jaguar’s Traction-4 advanced all wheel drive system. All of Jaguar’s X-Type offerings include all wheel drive as standard equipment.
The X-Type Sportwagon’s cabin greets its occupants with plush leather seating surfaces and luxurious amenities.
I liked the optional 320-watt Alpine sound system in my X-Type Sportwagon tester. My tester also featured an abundance of appealing wood trim.
Versatility is an important aspect of this vehicle and maximum interior volume with both rear seats folded forward is an impressive 50 cubic feet.
Even with the rear seats in use, there’s 24.2 cubic feet of luggage volume. Split-folding rear seats allow one, two or all three rear seat spaces to be allocated to luggage-carrying, so it is still possible to carry either one or two rear-seat passengers even with the backseats partially folded.
The spacious load area is fully carpeted and trimmed. To keep items hidden from view, there is a retractable cover that rolls out over the load area.
On the outside, fixed silver roof rails are fitted as standard and a range of additional carrying systems such as ski racks and luggage boxes are available.
Back inside, the X-Type Sportwagon offers comfortable seating for five. But with the front seats in their rear most position, there isn’t much rear seat legroom.
I was disappointed to note that while there were enough cupholders, they weren’t accommodating for much more than a 12-ounce can. I had to hold my favorite coffee mug in hand during my morning commute.
I had more fun driving the X-Type Sportwagon when I wasn’t sipping my morning coffee.
Acceleration from the 227-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 is adequate, but I would have appreciated a few more ponies for times when carrying a full-load of passengers and cargo.
The ride is pleasing and likable. Consistent with the X-Type sedan, the X-Type Sportwagon is engineered to deliver a supple ride with maximum control and sporting dynamics, including exceptional steering feel.
The X-Type Sportwagon is fairly nimble and athletic. The ride feels more sedan-like than wagon-like.
One of the X-Type’s most likable aspects is the all wheel drive system. It gives the driver confidence and assurance for foul-weather driving.
The X-Type Sportwagon will allow you to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities regardless of road conditions.
