The 2009 Cadillac CTS is one of the most gorgeous and technologically advanced cars in its class. It hardly seems fair to call it an entry-level model, but that's what it is in terms of the Cadillac line.
Aside from where CTS sits in the lineup, it's far from entry level. The CTS is a gem and Cadillac knows it. And so do the critics. After totally reworking the CTS for 2008, CTS received many accolades, including being named 2008 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
The CTS looks good regardless of which color you choose, but my 2009 Cadillac CTS tester looked fabulous with its White Diamond Premium ($995) finish. This color is extremely elegant and further helps this beautiful car stand out in a crowd. Not that it really needs much help.
There's no mistaking the CTS for anything but a Cadillac thanks to its crisp, edgy styling and other exterior design elements that pay homage to previous Cadillac models.
Slip inside the CTS and you'll be pleased to find a well-crafted, luxurious interior. French stitching is used throughout the interior, including the upper instrument panel, door trim, seats and shifter boot.
The CTS' cabin is roomier than most other models in this segment, but I would have preferred a bit more room for my right knee up front (due to a wide center pod) and a bit more head and legroom in the rear.
Having said that, the CTS is still a joy to drive. Base models ($36,560) come fitted with a 263-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed automatic is available.
The other engine choice is a direct-injected version 3.6-liter V-6 that pounds out 304 horsepower. Both versions run on regular unleaded fuel and fuel economy is surprisingly good (17 city/26 highway).
The CTS powers the rear wheels or you can opt for an all-wheel-drive model. On vehicles equipped with AWD, the six-speed automatic transmission is partnered with an active transfer case that automatically transfers torque from the rear to the front of the vehicle for optimal traction, safety and performance. |
